About Judge Duncan
My name is Angela Duncan, and I am asking for your vote to continue the hard work of building a just and equitable legal system in Gwinnett County as your Superior Court Judge. As a decades long resident of Gwinnett County, I am excited to have the opportunity to put my name forward for service in our community and tackle head on the challenges our court system has in front of it.
After graduating from John Marshall Law School in Atlanta in 1996, I jumped headfirst into the practice of law here in Lawrenceville. I worked for several years with my dad, a fellow attorney, doing everything from personal injury law to criminal defense and eventually bridged out on my own in 2001 to form my own law practice right here in the Gwinnett area. I stood ready to help any client that walked in my door, whether it be a family going through a tough divorce transition and needing to decide what is best for their children or a neighbor just trying to handle a traffic injury. I wanted to be an attorney that fought for strong, ethical values. My credibility as hard-working attorney paid off, with my appointment to be a Municipal Court Judge for the cities of Chamblee, Snellville, Suwanee, Norcross, and Doraville across most of my career.
It is in municipal court that I fell in love with the way the court system can be a place for community building. Our municipal courts handle traffic citations as well as local ordinance violations. During my time as a judge in municipal court, I often found myself sitting with neighbors, who were not often represented by attorneys. My role was to hear and try these cases compassionately and fairly. By 2004, I was appointed as a part-time Magistrate Judge in Gwinnett County. It was in this capacity that I was able to gain a wide range of knowledge in various types of cases and gain experience as a jurist. I sat regularly in a variety of other courts like Juvenile, State, Superior, and Recorders Court. My job was in large part to become experiences in a wide range of cases and gain experience as a jurist. By 2016, I was appointed as a full time Magistrate Court Judge, and I began siting primarily in Superior Court. By 2019, I had served as an attorney for nearly twenty-three years and had the opportunity to serve our county and our cities as a local appointed judge for nearly twenty years. Due to the rapid development and growth of Gwinnett County as well as a population boom, the state legislature recognized an insufficient number of Superior Court judges for to serve the public. As a result, they added an 11th judge, and I was appointed to the seat.
Beyond being your Gwinnett County Superior Court Judge, I am a veteran, a wife, a mother, and a community leader. From 1987 until 1995, I served our country in the US Army Reserve as a Lightweight Vehicle Mechanic. My wife, Michele, and I live today in downtown Lawrenceville, and we have two (if you do not count the three German Shepherds) amazing children, Brody and Alex, who are students at Georgia Gwinnett College and Gwinnett Tech. I am also a fervent Dallas Cowboys fan. As a member of our community, I am a regular volunteer at the Gwinnett Veterans Resource Center, a past Rotarian, and alumni of Leadership Gwinnett (2017). It would be my honor to continue to serve the citizens of Gwinnett County.
